Some animals have a sixth sense
There are a few types of animal that can sense infrared, and the most famous are snakes. However, they can’t really ‘see’ it; it’s more a sixth sense that enables them to ‘detect’ infrared through specially evolved heat-sensitive pits on their faces. Infrared is a type of electromagnetic radiation and, although we can’t see it, we feel it as heat. Apart from snakes, other animals able to detect infrared include blood-sucking insects (such as mosquitoes), some types of fish (such as goldfish) and some frog species.
