The spectacled bear: the real life Paddington

There’s only one bear that lives in the Peruvian jungle and it’s South America’s largest carnivore, though it eats very little meat. The spectacled bear has a very sweet tooth and feeds on fruit, honey and flowers. Aside from being the inspiration behind the world-famous bear, the spectacled bear has a unique habit when searching for food.

If struggling to reach high-up fruit, a spectacled bear will build its own platform to stand on. Once it has plucked out all the fruit it can eat, it will curl up for a snooze on its new vantage point. These bears spend nearly all of their lives in trees and, like Paddington, don’t interact with other bears.
